Tonight (2/26/17) at 7pm, your Sunday evening WTUL hosts DJ Ruby of Soul Jazz Sunday (6-8pm) and DJ Pennebaker of 20th Century Classics (8pm-midnight) join forces to bring you THE THIRD STREAM: three hours of music that fuses elements of jazz and classical music into something that defies strict categorization.
The term was coined by composer Gunther Schuller in 1957 and has since gone on to include the intermingling of a number of traditions resulting in a new kind of music. Tonight's program explores the music of some Third Stream adherents, but also focuses on works by jazz and classical musicians and composers, avant-garde pioneers, and solo improvisors.
Soul Jazz Sunday begins at 6pm. The Third Stream broadcasts from 7-10pm. 20th Century Classics wraps up the evening from 10pm-midnight. Tune in locally at 91.5 FM or "third stream" live here at wtulneworleans.com.
